KSLF Committee

Date: 22 March 2014

Running total of funds raised: £75,852.00

To date, we have donated £67,000 to the L&L Unit. Our last donation in December 2013 contributed further to the creation of the new "Young Adults Unit on T13. The area has been transformed into an age appropriate space with a strong London theme which will make the experience for younger inpatients much less daunting and overwhelming.
Items purchased for UCLH to date:

Apheresis Machines x 2
Cadd Prism Pump
Leg massagers
Plasma TVs
Magazine subscription
Aromatherapy Oils

"On 12 April 2011 we visited UCLH to see the Apheresis Machine that we purchased with funds that we raised from previous events and kind donations. During the course of our visit, we were able to see "Kevin" in use, performing a plasma transfusion - a sign of how useful the machine is. The purchase of this machine is particularly helpful as soon some of the other machines will be obsolete due to new technologies. The L&L Unit will need to replace five Apheresis machines costing £45,000 each. We will continue to raise funds for a new machine.

Other items purchased include leg massagers for patients, a plasma TV for the waiting room, that we had a glimpse of on our way out, and CADD back packs which allow treatment to be given to patients who can be free to leave the hospital. Seeing the purchases in the hospital and the Apheresis Machine in use made me appreciate the benefit, of what we are doing, to patients. These purchases could not have been made without your kind support and generous donations." James Steeds

The Kevin Steeds Lymphoma Fund was set up by his wife Susan along with family and friends.

The Founding Committee had its first meeting on 8 October 2009, and held its first event on 28 November 2009 which fits well with Kevin’s mantra: “Get on with it.”
